India Danish, Tranquebar Mint, Frederik V (1746-66), Silver Royalin, 1755 AD, Obv: Royal arms below denomination, date devided in two parts, Rev: crowned F5 monogram, (Wt: 1.50 grams, Dia: 11.09 mm), (KM # 146), choice quality, Gem Uncirculated, Extremely Rare type With date.
Tranquebar, present-day Tharangampadi on the Coromandel Coast, became a Danish trading settlement in 1620 through an agreement with Raghunatha Nayak of Thanjavur. Its coinage preserves a distinctive chapter of European trade in India, combining Danish royal identity with the monetary needs of an Indian settlement.
Struck during the reign of Frederik V, this silver Royalin bears the crowned royal monogram and the Danish arms, with the date 1755 divided across the field. The dated issue adds particular interest to this small yet historically evocative coin, linking the Danish monarchy to its distant possessions in India. Its described Gem Uncirculated preservation makes it an especially appealing example for a collection of Indo-Danish coinage.
