Obverse: Within dotted  borders, the Persian legend “Ilahi Mah Khurdad, zarb Agra, 1024/10”, with delicate floral motifs beneath the inscription, creating the impression of calligraphy resting upon an ornamental carpet. Reverse: Within dotted borders, the Persian legend “Noor-ud-din Jahangir Shah Akbar Shah”, similarly embellished with floral motifs beneath the inscription, echoing the appearance of calligraphy resting upon a richly patterned carpet.

Exceptional Sharpness and Mirror-Like Brilliance

This round rupee was issued at Agra in AH 1024, for Khurdad, the third Persian solar month, corresponding to Gemini. It follows the mint’s established practice of striking rupees in alternating round and square forms according to the month, with Khurdad regularly assigned a round flan. The present coin represents a regular monthly issue within Jahangir’s Agra rupee series.

An exceptionally fine Mint state Jahangir silver rupee, graded MS 65, displaying a striking contrast between frosted legends and mirror-like fields that lends the surfaces a glass-like brilliance. The calligraphic strokes are razor-sharp, while the exquisite floral wreaths retain even the most delicate details. The remarkable crispness suggests a fresh pair of dies, bringing the artistry of the engraving into sharp relief. Its superb strike and outstanding preservation make this a particularly distinguished example of Mughal numismatic art. One of the finest silver rupees of Jahangir offered at auction to date, NGC MS 65, Extremely Rare.
