Description

Mughals, Jahangir (AH 1014-1037/1605-1627 AD) Silver Rupee, Burhanpur Mint, AH 1020, Isfandarmuz (Pisces), Obverse : “Zarb Burhanpur, Mah Isfandarmuz Ilahi”. Reverse : “Nur al-Din Jahangir Shah Akbar Shah”, Wt : 11.40 gm approx, 21.16mm approx, (KM # 145.5).

This beautifully ornamented rupee displays bold Persian calligraphy interspersed with floral rosettes, leafy sprays and geometric motifs. Broad, sweeping strokes divide the inscriptions, while finely engraved flowers fill the intervening spaces, creating a richly decorated composition on both faces. The bright silver surfaces highlight the raised lettering and delicate ornamentation. Presented as NGC MS 61, this specimen combines Mint State preservation with particularly appealing die engraving, making it a distinguished example of Jahangir’s decorative silver coinage. Rare in such grade.
