Description

Jahangir (AH 1014-1037 /1605-1627 AD), 'Ahmad-A-Nagar' Mint, Silver Rupee, AH 1033 /19 RY, "Kalima" Type,  Zeno#249668 , (Wt: 11.31 gms, Dia: 18.04 mm).

Obv: Kalima shahada, mint name as 'Ahmad-A-Nagar' beside laam of 'rasul' in kalima, Rev: Persian legend "Nur al-din Jahangir Badshah ghazi".

Ahmad-A-Nagar

This rupee features the unusual mint-name spelling “Ahmad-A-nagar”, rather than the customary “Ahmadnagar”—a rare occurrence among the mint’s Kalima-type issues. Although this elongated spelling is also known on Jahangir’s Ilahi-month issues from Ahmadnagar, its appearance on the present type is particularly noteworthy.

Another distinguishing feature is the omission of the patronymic reference to Akbar. The imperial legend names only “Jahangir Badshah Ghazi”, this variety is unlisted on Zeno and in the published references consulted, with no matching auction record traced. It may therefore represent a previously undocumented variety within the series. Free from all sort of handlings, Uncirculated, Very Rare.
