Description

Kakatiyas of Warangal, Parola I (c.1052-1076 AD), gold punch-marked One-and-a-Half Gadyana, Shardula type, (5.79 g, Height: 70 mm), Total of 9 repousse punches.

Obverse :
consists of 1x central punch that consists of Shardula facing left with raised forepaw. The circumfluent punches surrounding the central punch consists of 2x Sri, 1x 'Daaya gaja', 1x 'Kesari' inscribed in Kannada, and 4x Lion standing facing right.

Reverse :
Incuse impressions corresponding to the raised designs on the obverse.

Comment : The Kakatiya dynasty succeeded the Nolamba dynasty and ruled for a brief period and their coins are extremely rare. Prola-II was a feudatory to the Chalukya Vikramaditya-VI and proclaimed independence with the decline of the Chalukyas. A superbly preserved specimen with gleaming surfaces, struck in high relief with brilliant details, offering outstanding eye appeal. Uncirculated, Extremely rare.
