Comment : The Sharabhapuriyas ruled Dakshina Kosala, covering much of present-day Chhattisgarh and adjoining parts of Odisha, during the fifth and sixth centuries CE. Known principally through copper-plate inscriptions and a small surviving coinage, they represent an important regional power that emerged as Gupta authority weakened.

This thin gold issue is distinguished by its repoussé manufacture and elaborate religious imagery. Garuda, flanked by the conch and chakra, expresses the dynasty’s devotion to Vishnu, while the kalasha below adds an auspicious element to the design. The royal name in distinctive box-headed Brahmi makes the coin a valuable record of the region’s early rulers, combining delicate craftsmanship with a clear declaration of religious and royal identity.
