Description

Satavahana Dynasty, Vasisthiputra Siva Sri Pulumavi (152-160 AD), Silver Dramma, Portrait type, (Wt : 2.24 gms, Dia : 15.00 mm), (PAIC # 2754)

Obverse : bust of the king to right, a stylish hair-bun in the front above the forehead, Brahmi legend "Rano Vasithiputasa Siva Siri Pudumavisa" around

Reverse : a six-arched hill with a crescent and an Ujjaini symbol with sun in the center, a wavy rive line below, Tamil legend in Brahmi script "Arahanaku Vahitti Makanaku Siva Tiru Pudumaviku" around.

Comment :
The silver coins of the Satavahana Empire represent the first numismatic portraits indigenous to India. The version with bearded portrait is extremely rare, extremely fine, extremely rare.
