Delhi Sultanate, Suri Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri (AH 945-952/1538-1545 AD), Shergarh Mint, Silver Rupee, AH 948, Obv: Arabic legend The Kalima Shahada & star symbol right at the top within a double line square, around four Caliphs' names with title, Rev: Arabic legend "Sher Shah Sultan Khuld Allahu Mulkahu" within a double line square, "Farid ud dunya wa'l din abu'l Muzaffar" with mint name & date in the right margin & Nagari legend 'Sri Sher Sah', in bottom margin, 11.23g, 27.0mm, (G&G # D802), No test marks, about extremely fine to Unc, Very Scarce.

A beautifully balanced example of Sher Shah Suri’s bilingual coinage, this rupee pairs flowing Arabic calligraphy with the Nagari inscription “Sri Sher Sah.” Elegant double-lined square frames enclose the central legends, while the broad flan displays much of the surrounding inscription. The mint name and date in the right margin, together with the Nagari legend along the lower margin, give the reverse a distinctive and readily appreciable arrangement.

Boldly struck and free of test marks, the specimen combines clearly defined lettering with pleasing surfaces and impressive overall completeness. Its About Uncirculated to Uncirculated preservation enhances the beauty of the engraving, making it a particularly desirable example of the Shergarh mint.
